Do You Suffer from Headaches?

It often happens during a massage session that I help relieve your headache. Does it work? Almost always. But let’s talk about that “almost”.
This post is a simple guide you can use as a personal checklist the next time you experience a headache.
First, a bit of theory
Headaches fall into two main categories:
Secondary headaches – caused by illness, hangovers, sinus issues, infections etc. These usually go away with medical treatment. They make up about 10–15% of all cases.
Primary headaches – including Tension Headaches (TH) and Migraines.
Let’s see which one you may have.
Quick Self-Test:
Ask yourself the following:
1. How intense is the pain? (Mild = TH, Severe = Migraine)
2. Does it last a day or more without relief? (Yes = Migraine)
3. Nausea or vomiting? (Migraine = Yes, TH = No)
4. Sensitive to light? (Migraine = Yes, TH = No)
5. Sensitive to noise? (Migraine = Yes, TH = No)
6. Visual disturbances like flashing or floaters? (Migraine = Yes)
7. Throbbing pain? (More likely Migraine)
8. Poor sleep or oversleeping before the headache? (Migraine = Yes)
9. Is the pain spread across the whole head? (More likely TH)
10. Does paracetamol, movement or rest help? (Yes = likely TH)
(Don’t worry if not all answers are clear – we’ll work it out together. Please don’t suffer in silence – there is always a way forward.)
Final Thoughts:
If your answers suggest Migraine, it's important to consult your GP for further investigation and long-term management.
If it's more likely Tension Headache, I can almost certainly help – through manual massage, acupressure, and other effective techniques.
Let’s find what works for you.
