Backache, what happens, why and what to do

In the last post, I briefly and in the simplest words explained what protrusion and hernia are. Again. Protrusion is a partial hernia, and a hernia is already an injury. And if a hernia occurs. What is it and what to do if a  shot occurs.

The intervertebral disc consists of an annulus fibrosus (composed of many dense concentric layers of collagen fibers) and within it is the nucleus pulposus (a gel-like liquid structure in the center of the disc). During the use of the body, sooner or later, the fibrous rings are torn from the inside, which leads to the formation of a rupture and protrusion of the hernia. It happens instantly, like a shot. It can even happen simply from a sneeze.

So, the lumbago is a hernia. At the moment, healer cells (macrophages, monocytes) rush to the site of injury  and immediately begin the process of healing the wound - treatment. These cells eat up the hernia and remove diseased, processed waste through the body's excretory systems. The healing process of a hernia is natural, often not requiring surgery (only 3-5% of acute cases). Imagine that you squeezed some toothpaste out of a tube and left it on the sink without closing the lid of the tube. The squeezed-out paste will simply dry out and crumble in a couple of days. It’s about the same with a hernia.

What to do?  If you are in Scotland, call/write  me - I will help, if not physically, then definitely with advice. But the resorption process itself (the natural process of healing/resorption of an intervertebral hernia) will proceed something like this. Immediately after a painful lumbago, rest for about 5-7 days is necessary. The medicine in this case will be ice (remember, we alternate for 7 minutes, i.e. cooled and removed the ice, cooled and removed the ice) and water (you need to drink more than you drank before, and more than your norm). If necessary, prescribe painkillers and anti-inflammatory medications from your therapist. Later we begin to move gradually. If there is a hernia in the lumbar region, we start walking, walking a lot. And gradually we include specific exercises. But you can’t write here how and what in simple words (this also applies to me)... But remember – we don’t do anything through pain. Everything should happen slowly and gradually. The more smoothly you apply the therapy, the better the injury will heal. If you continue to “squeeze the paste out of the tube,” the hernia will increase in size and then there may be more serious complications (for example, rupture of the hernia and/or the formation of osteophyte growths, which will always bother you in this place throughout your life).

Be healthy and take care of yourself and your loved ones.
